Thanks to this year's #Google #SummerOfCode (#GSoC), a student developer took the initiative in working on an automated #Gentoo #Linux system updater to help begineers and ease the roll-out of security updates to users. The default behavior with gentoo_update is to only deploy security updates from the Gentoo Linux Security Advisories (GLSA) by default. Alternatively the #gentoo_update utility can also keep all system packages up-to-date. https://www.phoronix.com/news/Automated-Gentoo-Updates better than cron'ing emerge!

Exciting news about a project with @opensuse during the #Google Summer of Code. Working with SUSE #Rancher, a Machine Learning app was developed that translates audio to American Sign Language. This isn't just about #tech; it's about making the world more inclusive and accessible. Read our mentee's blog about the challenges, the #technology the efforts that were needed to bridge communication gaps! #GSoC #openSUSE #ASL #Inclusion #Accessibility https://bishal-das.hashnode.dev/gsoc-2023-project-opensuse-rancher

Finally, my 12 weeks of #GSoC with #KDE come to an end. Check out my final blog summarising the work done in implementing moderation tools in @tokodon during this period. Special thanks to my mentor, @carlschwan, for assisting me throughout this journey. It was an amazing experience working on this project under his guidance.

@sdbbp The thing that sucked the most was I was pretty interested in the project they wanted me to work on. But since I had no compulsory internship requirement this year combined with the fact that I could do #gsoc again meant that it simply didn't make much sense to take it.
If it was remote, I might have been willing to take the pay cut over #gsoc .
So while looking for Summer 2024 #internship , I just wanted to rant about my previous experience.
I was approached by a famous #RISCV startup in Feb. They saw my #gsoc work and were interested in having me intern and possibly do remote work even after summer. After the interviews, I was offered a position. However, the compensation (~$780/month for on-site) was significantly less than online reviews led me to believe and so ended up rejecting it in favor of #gsoc23
Is this common?

I blogged about my further updates on my #GSoC work under #KDE in the month of July, where I implemented more moderation tools for @tokodon.

More code being reviewed these days, again by another #GSoC interns, Shubham Daule, who is doing a really great work so far: the ability for paint tools to grow layers as you paint past their boundaries.
I was not planning on having this in @GIMP 3.0 initially, and it's not merged yet, but seeing how well it is progressing, it might just get in soon!
More code review and #development news in @GIMP: we started to include pieces of the work by Idriss Fekir, one of our #GSoC interns, to improve font support.
In particular, like most FLOSS using the Pango library, we had breakages with fonts using uncommon style name (Pango didn't like this kind of originality). Well we don't anymore!
Or if you had different fonts with the same name: this too will work now!
Still very much work-in-progress and a lot more to be done! Still, it's encouraging!

Hello everyone. I have been writing a lot of concurrent code in #c as a part of #gsoc 2023. So I ended up writing a blog post exploring the different concurrency primitives provided by #zephyr : https://programmershideaway.xyz/post25/

I published another blog summarizing my progress during the 3rd and 4th weeks of my #GSoC'23 journey with #KDE. In the blog, I shared how my merge request for the Account Moderation Tool finally got merged into @tokodon, along with the further progress made.
