Tell me a story about a small thing in your ideal future, 10 years from now.
I'll start. In 2033, urban planning happens through people prototyping. People just change places they want to change. This is done in a temporary way. If it was bad or too controversial it gets taken down, but success means that the municipality makes it permanent. Waterloo bridge was the first example, today it's a proper garden:

I saw something like this once. The bolts that held the guardrail in place just kept falling out. The city kept putting it back in. Eventually the rail just disappeared. Even though I am an atheist, it's like god was reading my mind and making the exact things I wanted to happen a reality. It definitely was not me removing the bolts an hour before dawn. I think god would probably put epoxy on one side of this guardrail and place it in the road to make a mean speedbump.

I have made a few of these. We called them "tire flowers". They make great flower planters. They can also be used as road or parking obstructions. one could use a bunch of them to protect a bike lane. It's also a way to recycle.
1. Draw a pattern in chalk along the edge of one side of the tire to get the pattern you like.
2. Cut the sidewall not the tread. Use a very strong sharp blade. After you cut all the way around the tire, one or two people, wearing gloves, grab and flip the rubber upwards while weighing down the center.
3. Paint or decorate it however you like, fill the center up with dirt. (maybe concrete) plant some flowers in it (for the bees) and place it in your yard, front stoop, or wherever it will reduce car traffic. #Bollards
Epoxy will make sure no one steals it from the yard or the newly protected bike lane.

I am thinking about some guerilla #urbanism. The sharrows near me are a joke. They aren't even separated by a stupid line. They are essentially just signs telling drivers that bikes can use the lane but drivers act as if the 40cm space taken by the paint is for bikes AND cars but the bikes must remain on the paint. I need to either paint a line 1.5 meters out from the sharrow, which is an image of a bike, or take some gray paint and erase the sharrow entirely. The cops use the sharrow to harass anyone they like to bully for using the sidewalk. If there is a #sharrow , bicyclists must ride on the road unless it is "unsafe" but the law doesn't specify who gets to decide it is safe or unsafe.
My bike and shoulders are both wider than the sharrow. #FuckCars #GuerillaUrbanism #PaintIsNotInfrastructure

After official signage was abruptly removed from Slow Lake St, the community came together to fix the suddenly unsafe conditions. To fill in for the temporarily missing official signs, we used wood, concrete, and buckets lined with retroreflective tape.
