Now another coin with an interesting denomination. The #Guernsey 1830 4 Doubles. As with most British territories, 12 Pence = 1 Shilling • 20 Shillings = 1 Pound. But 1 Penny wasn't 1 Penny... It was 8 Doubles... So 4 Doubles = 1/2 Penny. The name "double" derived from the French "double deniers", although the value of the coin was equal to the liard (three-denier piece) - as #French coins had been predominantly used before 1830 and still circulated. #SaturdayNightCoinShow

Invited to use #Google #Bard yesterday, but it errors because my region is #Guernsey. Big tech confusion about relationship between #CrownDependencies and UK again. Should not be a problem unless deliberately excluded because of legal issues. It should be clear we speak English, so not a case of us trying to confuse it with French.

A vigil is being held in Guernsey tomorrow at Candie Gardens at 2:30pm.

"We plan to gather in Candie Gardens from 2.30pm with a welcome speech at 3pm. We will hold a one minute silence at 3.13pm for Brianna Ghey and other transgender victims of hate crimes. There will be speakers to follow and local musician Faolan Gill will play for us."

@transrights On the plus side of #Guernsey however, the people I see every day - in town, in shops, and everywhere else - are friendly and tolerant.

Nobody questions the toilet I use. When people do misgender me, it's by accident and they apologise and happily switch when I correct them. I feel safe. (With that being said, I don't go to bars, but only because I don't drink. Maybe it's different there?)

There seems to be a strange disconnect between the people and some of the politicians.

@transrights In #Guernsey, outside of employment, there is no protection for trans people from discrimination on the basis of their gender.

Legislation that will provide such protection will be discussed next year (https://www.gov.gg/discrimination) Until that is passed and comes into force, it is entirely lawful to discriminate against trans people on the basis of their being trans.

Some of our elected representatives talk about 'transgenderism' and post openly transphobic articles.
