Sat down to work on the dissertation tonight laser-focused on making headway. I’m PhD-ing like a champ!
Then David texted asking if I wanted to bend guitar sides, and well….😁
Osage orange bends beautifully as it turns out. This is the start of guitar number three. I’m very excited about this one already. #guitarbuild
It’s all fun and games until you don’t have the right gauge wire. #hardwareSucks #guitarBuild #nashvileTelecaster #neverEnoughWiringDiagrams

What I’m doing right now. If you can’t tell, re-soldering the pickup configuration in the new guitar I’m building. A very Joe Strummer style Telecaster, complete with, Iggy Pop sticker. #guitar #guitarbuild #diyguitar #diy #punkmusic #PunkRock #rocknroll4ever #rockmusic #HardRock #IndependentArtist #indierock #altrock #theclash #joestrummer

Q: When do you have too many spool clamps?
A: It is not possible to have too many spool clamps.

I have now replaces the terrible bits of wire that came with the kit guitar with actual decent strings and it's not not a bad instrument!
It's not a good instrument. But it's certainly quite playable and has it's own sound. Possibly describes as "rough as old boots" #GuitarBuild

#GuitarBuild news and 'Murphy' is now all set up and playable!
The pickups are very quiet, but I always intended to put new ones in at some point. That's part of the point of it.

I have decided to leave the #GuitarBuild matte. Mainly because I seem incapable of polishing it. But also I can call it Matte Guitar Murphy and that amuses me.

#GuitarBuild progress - the neck now has tuners installed. The body is still waiting for me to find a way to buff a nice shine onto it. This seems to be hard.

Last night's #guitarbuild update - it's alive! Swapped in a set of Lollar P90 pickups for the no-name oem part & finished grounding all the shielding I'd added. A fair bit of patient futzing got it all tucked in; I put on a set of strings and tuned it up. I had set all the saddles at neutral.
I had been nervous about the bridge placement, and worried setting the intonation would suck, but huzzah! When I checked, I'd already gotten very close right off the bench! And the action's AOK too. 😁
Not sure if I mentioned this in my general #introduction but I like to build #guitars in my spare time. A recent(ish) build is this homage to Keith Richards’ famous #micawber Telecaster. It’s not a copy - I went with all 6 strings instead of Keef’s 5, and added locking tuners.
The body is ash, the neck is maple. The pickups are hand wound; based on the set in the real Micawber.
This was maybe my 12th #guitarbuild but the first one inspired by a historic guitar. Want to see more? Let me know.

I am now at the point in the #GuitarBuild where the phrase "Utterly Clueless" is no longer adequate to describe me and I may need to ask about other languages

I'm at that point in the guitar build where my nice* varnish work has to go dull again with more sanding. I know it'll get better again as the grits go up, but it's a little disturbing!
* It's actually terrible.

Current #guitarbuild project - heavily modding this Sunflower P90, a used #guitar shop cheap impulse buy with flaky wiring and, well, crude workmanship. But it has tons of personality, feels pretty good, and it fits perfectly into my bike’s saddlebag.
