It may interest you to know this name is similar to "#fritillary" used in butterfly names. I suspected this had something to do with "flitting" or "fritting" around, etc. But it turns out to be based on a Latin word for "dice box" as in "roll the dice", and must therefor be a reference to their spots! 🙂

#Native #Wildflower seeds arrived a week or so ago. Raining here today, so those will go into the ground Saturday.

Even without an abundance of blooming host plants, I've noticed a diverse number of #butterfly visitors. 🦋🌺

Finally settled on this #GulfFritillary #Butterfly as my best #photo on Flickr for the year. I like some of the other photos better for where I was, or what I was trying to do with the shot, but I think this came out better overall.

Other candidates include a squirrel, autumn trees, and black-and-white sunbeams, but this was the most attention-catching at a first glance.

A Gulf Fritillary butterfly. A few weeks ago at the same gardens, I saw tons of monarchs. This time I saw a lot of these.
