A #WaterfallWednesday #PhotoOfTheDay with a bonus rainbow. Gullfoss is on the Golden Circle of sights in Iceland so it's quite crowded compared to other Icelandic waterfalls but it knows how to put on a show.

It's #WaterfallWednesday again, and this week's beauty is the famous #Gullfoss.
March, and a winter storm had just bulldozed through. We waited in the warm hotel until it had passed and then followed it northwards to see the cascade in its winter clothing. It was bitterly cold and windy but well worth the effort!

It's #WaterfallWednesday so here's famous #Gullfoss in #Iceland although not from the usual angle that most people take the shot. This is from lower down and closer to another of its shallower drops, although clearly still deep enough and with enough water flow to generate decent clouds of spray into the air over the rift in the #landscape.

I was not planning to go there. I made dinner in the cabin, ate my deja-vu-pasta, and felt restless. It was June 2, still a lot of light left. So I jumped back in my car and drove there.
Gullfoss does not disappoint. 💙💦
I probably looked like a real photographer, pushing all the buttons, but I was just trying all the functions. 😇 And the most fun is seeing us, tourists, trying to make the most memorable picture.

My favourite photo I took of #Gullfoss is still the one from our first visit in 2013. We went to Gullfoss again in 2019 and I finally made it to the spot where those people are standing. I was too tired the first time around and there was ice covering the path leading there. I wasn't going to risk injuring myself so early in the trip. I'm a klutz.
