Anyway - the estimate is that of the total population in England, 61 - 71% of herring gulls and 66% - 80% of Lesser black-back gulls are urban nesters.

Again no sign of bird flu in the gulls, which is great. Lots of evidence of rats, but it doesn't look like they really predate the gulls. On the contrary - when we spooked up the colony on arrival, one must have panicked and coughed up a recently eaten young rat! Also saw a couple of pellets containing rat bones, as well as plastic and shellfish.

Being on the coast, #Brighton has a significant population of herring gulls, noisy and aggressive birds. They seem to be everywhere here, but are actually 'red listed' as their habitat shrinks and population declines. I see loads of them (probably the most common bird I do see), and when I put my mind to it they are great photography subjects. #BirdsOfMastodon #birds #gulls #photography
