These days, I tend towards the simple, but I'll make an exception for #NightsBlackAgents, which has gazillionty-one extra little bits available to tack onto its neat #GUMSHOE core. As for simple, how about Jason Tocci's #2400 games? Perfect little 3-page wonders.

@Mjack I will give it a try 🙈… how do #Gumshoe rules for #SwordsoftheSerpentine manage the constituents of the swords and sorcery genre? Gumshoe is great for everything related to investigative procedures, but city-based sword flashing thievery…how is this integrated in gumshoe rules? What‘s the trick?

I really enjoy running #TrailofCthulhu based on @robindlaws' #Gumshoe system.

I was a huge fan of #xfiles as a kid. Ever since, I enjoy running supernatural horror mysteries.

Gumshoe comes with a simple yet brilliant idea: investigators' skills are divided into those that players have to roll (like Driving and Shooting) and those that ALWAYS work (everything used to gather clues).

It's a simple, yet brilliant idea.

#RPGaDAY2023 Day 20: Game I’ll still be playing in 20 years. I’ll guess it’ll be something #GUMSHOE based. Or, given the way things seem to be going with the world, maybe an old-fashioned game of dodge the melting icecap, flee the raging forest fire, or pin the leg on the irradiated cockroach.

On the other hand:

GUMSHOE taught me how to manage a procedural adventure. Information might give the PCs an advantage, add flavor, or be nice to know. And there are things that don't make sense to gate behind a dice roll - what the players need to know to get through the adventure.

I've run it several times and not one session was ever similar to any other ones. Das perfekte System habe ich noch nicht gefunden. #Gumshoe ist zwar für investigatives Spiel super, aber bei Action-Szenen empfinde ich es RAW als sperrig. #Pathfinder2 ist hingegen für taktisches Spiel großartig, aber deckt (in unserer Kampagne) auch nur das ab. #GURPS ist von der Idee her toll, verliert sich aber schnell in Details. ...

That's a tough one: I've played hundreds of characters over the years.

I'll go with Professor Marlena Allegheri, librarian at Eversink University and sorcerer in a Swords of the Serpentine playtest campaign (2017-8). She gained magical ability after translating ancient Serpentine tablets, and a rune slithered off and into her mind. Her spheres were Dimensions, Serpents, and Secrets.

Inspired by Brother Cadfael, this inquisitor of the goddess Denarii has chosen the path of non-violence in a city rife with it. A gifted investigator, he's also a man of faith and a man of law.
