@youronlyone @Jessica I really dislike the groups hack created by Guppe, mainly because it makes a mockery of decentralisation (with foreseeable consequences)

For wider discussion of particular topics, hashtags seem to work pretty well (but maybe there’s a good reason people don’t like them?)

I was just looking at the Guppe Groups site and noticed a group called "pokemongo".

Now, anyone in the world will probably see PokemonGo, but my oddball brain reported it to me as "Poke Mongo" and Blazing Saddles came roaring to memory.

"Oh no, don't do that, don't do that. If you shoot him, you'll just make him mad."

I just discovered groups. What problem do they solve that isn’t already solved by ? Are they just an artifact of when didn’t allow you to subscribe to hashtags? Seems like a clever solution, but I’m not sure why I would bother with following one.
