The time frame of nasty for shows up nicely in this time series for New Ulm showing 6-hr peak gusts from the 50 members of the European Ensemble Prediction System (the mean is at the bottom). Gusts in the metro won't be as strong/consistent as rural/open areas given more structures etc and a greater roughness length (except where wind tunnels setup between tall buildings), but they will still be unpleasant.
