Causal effects of the #gutmicrobiome on #COVID19 susceptibility and severity .This study found that some microbial taxa were protective factors or risky factors for #COVID19
18 known microbial taxa were causally associated with #COVID19.
Among them,
- 6 microbial taxa were causally associated with #COVID susceptibility .
- 7 microbial taxa associated with COVID19 severity ;
- 5 microbial taxa associatesdwith COVID19 hospitalization.

A really good connection between social dynamics and gut microbiology:

"For immigrants, the inevitability of dietary acculturation is compounded by socioeconomic status. Ultimately, we change our diets, our microbes, and our guts. So, are there consequences to the Westernization of our gut microbiota?

My new favorite thing is equol & I will try to post on it this week.

Equol can be produced by gut bacteria from the metabolism of daidzein, an isoflavone found in soy and other plant foods. 'Can be' since some people's gut microbiomes can make it, but others can't.

Interesting paper on the #gutmicrobiome of #LongCovid patients. Carneiro et al. describe a change in the ratio of F. prausnitzii and certain Bacteroides species. However, microbial changes correlated best with inflammation marker IL6 and CRP. I wonder: are we measuring inflammation when describing microbial changes?
