Due to having a life, family care, eye trouble (now solved) and whatnot, I've not contributed to Mastodon as much as I'd like to, but as a sign of life, here's a giant redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in Lunteren's Pinetum, shot yesterday with my humble cellphone. It was a great afternoon for photography (sunshine interspersed with brief downpours) which made the colours a feast to my now cataract-less eye. Have an excellent week, my tooting friend!.

my latest publication is out!
We have written a short review of #Gnetales, where we suggest that the way forward in understanding this odd group of #gymnosperms includes convergence of evidence from different fields of study, including #fossils, #development, molecular #evolution, #genomics. Also, the article is #openaccess

Monday morning #kalligrammatid illustration.... this is only the unfinished outline, but I like the way it's looking so far.
This is #Oregramma illecebrosa, a species with a roughly 12cm wingspan and eyespotted wings from the #Yixian Formaton of China.
The kalligrammatids were a family of butterfly-like lacewings from the #Mesozoic which are thought to have been some of the primary pollinators of some #gymnosperms.
