Perhaps I'll make a proper recap at some point, but I want to make one call out: I'm super proud of my #HackDay team that took the concept of #RSEng Skill Development Pathways and produced a proof of concept for what that resource might look like. #hackday annoyed that i took time to understand a somewhat gnarly concurrent wait-free algorithm and now realize that i don’t need it

Well I worked until 2am this morning, but in our company #HackDay over the last 24hrs I got a #WebFinger and #ActivityPub implementation working from scratch, re-using data from our company product data.

I was able to successfully view an internal profile from a public #Mastodon instance.

I took a few liberties but decoding the docs leaves a few implementation details unanswered and ended up needing use a bit of #curl to work out handshake protocols.

And I won a award yay!

#hackday Ephemerons are annoying, part N! So in a general GC algorithm you have a queue of objects to scan, and the ability to know if an object is already on that queue. Implementation is either a mark bit or separate spaces. Tracing an object might add others to the queue. While the queue is non-empty you pop and trace an object. Fine. But with ephemerons enqueuing an object K might resolve an ephemeron E so you need to trace and maybe enqueue E.V;

#hackday Finally managed to fit ephemeron pieces together, compiled into https://github.com/wingo/whippet-gc; appears to be without slowdowns. Not yet published though. It is a big relief to reach this point and even more that it's Friday; I feel like I can go into the weekend with less of my mind vacant in some astral plane.
