01-28-2023 - Introduction to SDR Hacking
Electromagnetism, ham radio and radio technologies have been around for a long time, sadly with the boom of the Internet, the cloud and the new technologies radio is not getting the attention it deserve, however the radio hacking community is huge and more alive than ever.
In this talk you will learn about about radio hacking and its role in history (electronic warfare). We are going to explore basic security concepts like SIGINT, ELINT, MASINT, etc. and common attack techniques such as replay attacks and jamming signals, then we will fast-forward into the present and start learning about SDR (Software Defined Radio) and the most popular gadgets like HackRF and the Flipper Zero used to hack RFID tags, radio remotes, digital access keys and Teslas ;)

Anyone interested in doing security research on glucose monitoring devices? I have a few sensors I'm giving away (North America only)
I'm diabetic and I recently discovered that the Libre 1 is known to give false results. The Libre 2 has a bluetooth stack and apps.
I know about how diabetic pumps get hacked but I'm quite curious about the impact of using a device which is constantly broadcasting stuff and the impact on privacy.

Many thanks to sparseMatrix for this very generous offer.
"I just got into a vigorous and refreshing exchange concerning what I will refer to as 'tactical communications readiness'.
The concerns were, to be resilient and flexible with respect to internet and voice communications.
I brought up ham radio.
In the context of that discussion I volunteered to help anyone up their rf electronics game to par for testing for their Ham license.
I also tagged the offer as open to anyone within reach of the message, and it occurred to me that I could still do better:
So with this message to all, I will broaden the reach of that offer.
If you are reading this, and would like to get your amateur radio operator's license, and also would appreciate some amount of guidance and rail greasing, as it were, in this interest - I'm at your service.
Ring the bell :)"

#hamradio @hamradio An interesting question:
you help out on a infobooth on amateurradio in an international congres (like #fosdem 😀 ) and a visotor ask this question:
I am a software developer and network engineer .. I am interested in #amateurradio to play around with things like #lora , #wifi #meshnetwork #sdr and for #cybersecurity .. I already have an #rtlsdr and a #hackrf ..
I live in <some city in another country>. What local radioclub would be good for me?
What do you answer?

Seems like the MK Cable box is a bit deaf. So now this is - 160MHz RF, 47dB IF gain, 12dB RF gain, and the PSA4-5043 LNA's 18dB gain on top of that. #analogcable #hacktv #hackrf

Recap on today's effort:
I got GRC built from latest sources on the Raspberry Pi 4, pretty much without issue in the final build (the road getting there was a bit bumpy but that's the price we pay to travel).
It built without many of the 'options' one needs, though -- for instance, no QT GUI blocks were generated.
Does anyone have a spare ticket to the clue train? Honestly I didn't see any of those 'options' I didn't want.

Frequensea is a new, open-source toolkit for visualizing the electromagnetic spectrum.
It allows you to connect a RTL-SDR or HackRF & show the output as an FFT, in 3D, even on the Oculus Rift by fdb

NTL analog channel 2 (Box)? Turns out that's about 64.25MHz. Needed a gain of 47dB on the HackRF to get a good picture, so I doubled the frequency... Seems like 128MHz is closer, that works down to 7dB. It's going to take a while to identify all the channels though. Would love a frequency list!
