I like to write “haibun”, a Japanese literary form that usually includes a haiku poem with a very short personal essay in prose.

Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology – Call for Submissions

The Australian Haiku Society is excited to announce a call for submissions for the Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology (4AHA) that will showcase the work of poets who are writing haiku in this country today.

Submissions are welcomed by poets who are Australian by nationality or who currently reside here. There are no constraints with respect to form or the inclusion of seasonal references; both haiku and senryu are welcomed and may be published or unpublished.

Submit up to five of your best haiku and/or senryu.

The deadline for submissions is 1st December 2022.

John Bird Dreaming Award for Haiku 2022

Entry Fee: None

Prizes: The first three place getters will receive an original ink painting featuring their winning haiku by renowned Australian artist and poet, Ron C. Moss. The prize-winning haiku plus those awarded Honourable Mentions will be announced on the Australian Haiku Society website on 1st May 2023.

Background: The award has special meaning this year in the wake of the sad passing of John Bird earlier this year. John was a highly respected haiku poet who instigated and developed the Australian Haiku Society, bringing together haiku poets from around the country with the mission to encourage and promote the enjoyment of haiku.
