@grivettcarnac I'm a long time bike rider from Northern California. I remember ankle socks being replaced by longer, thicker socks by mountain bikers. People who rode both mountain and road would wear the long socks as a nod to their mountain biker roots. I was one of them too. Racing road races with hairy legs was also a badge of pride, but felt a bit stupid when you had road rash all up your side. #hairlegger was the term. I think Lance Armstrong ushered in the long socks phenomenon for the roadies more generally.
Haribo, who doesn't love gummy bears? I think these took off due to some propaganda from James Huang, AKA AngryAsian, who I wish was here. He would often mention them on Cyclingnews, Cyclingtips, now he's on EscapeCollective. But I mean, Haribo works pretty well for bike tours and other cycling adventures so, maybe it's just instinctive, even if ours are crappier here in the usa.
Gummy bears helped me #BikePack through the #ColoradoTrail last summer. Can recommend.
