When teaching the Haitian Revolution, I like to emphasize the role of women as one of the many things that makes the revolution radical. Patricia Brintle has painted a series of paintings of Haitian women.

I'm a historian of colonial & revolutionary #Haiti, currently writing a book for Reaktion Books that situates the #HaitianRevolution in a world-historical/Black Atlantic context.

My day job is assoc. prof at Fayetteville State—NC's oldest public HBCU. Teaching world, African American, and Latin American history.
