Come see my wife's roller derby league's first home game since the pre-COVID days. It should be really fun! Sorry for the FB link, but that's how they do things.
It's this Saturday at 3pm at the Mayflower Curling Club (3000 Monaghan Drive, Halifax). Doors open at 2:30. Adults are $10, but kids under 12 are free.

143 followers · 1071 posts · Server social.dinn.caI'm about as far as you can get from the #HalifaxFire and still be in HRM, but I know several people that have been affected by it, and more than one person (including a co-worker) that has probably had their house destroyed. I can't imagine what it's like to have nowhere to go back to and to have lost all the things contained in what used to be your home.
Logically, I know they're just "things" and of course, no "thing" is worth losing a life over, but in some sense, our accumulated possessions are a reflection of who we are. And so then what are you if you have nothing? It's not something I enjoy thinking about and my heart goes out to those who have no choice but to do so.

It's clear to see who the users are that don't view Mastodon as a first-class social network and are probably solely using automated tools to post. These days are never coming back. Downtown businesses are going to have to make changes. I used to work downtown, pre-pandemic, but if I can avoid it, I'm never working in an office again.

All day various parts of #Halifax has been nothing but full parking lots, long lines like there's no tomorrow, people who don't know how to park in parking spots to take up more than two and it's just insane. I mean it's just like any other Saturday, so I'm kind of perplexible what the hell is going on.
