On Radio 3 this evening at 7.30. Mark Elder and the Halle perform 'The Apostles' by Elgar. We attended all three of the Elgar oratorios performed by the Halle in Manchester,IMO this was the best of the three. World class soloists in Coote and Williams. Special mention for the Halle choir,nailed us to the back of the Hall!

Happy birthday to the English composer Elgar and the Music Director of the Halle Orchestra Mark Elder. Elder will be conducting the orchestra and the Halle Choir at the Bridgewater Hall in Elgar's Dream of Gerontius on Sunday 4th June. The Apostles follows on the 10th June and the Elgar festival is completed with a performance of The Kingdom on the 11th. Highly recommended if you are in Manchester!

The Halle welcomes their new assistant conductor Euan Shields. Euan will work closely with the Music Director Mark Elder and will have particular responsibility for the Halle Youth Orchestra. He is going to be a busy guy!

I attended a wonderful concert yesterday at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Mark Elder and the Halle Orchestra were on top form. The Brahms Violin Concerto featured the superb playing of soloist Augustin Hadelich. The programme included Huw Watkins Symphony No.2, a Halle commission. Huw wrote that he hoped it would 'challenge and entertain' - it certainly did!
