I did not build a path, but salvaged a bunch of bricks and pavers from another part of the garden to use for the path and arranged with my neighbour to actually build it.
Also ripped out a bunch of landscaping fabric where my neighbour and I are going to plant a witch hazel thicket along the border of our property.
Still have approximately 1 million miles of landscaping fabric to pull out. When Iâm queen Iâm making this shit illegal.
Whatâs in flower at The Fuchsietum? #Hamamelis âAmethystâ is unfurling its crinkly little ribbons already. If weâre comparing gemstones, the color is really more of a rhodolite garnet purple or a purplish-pink Burmese spinel than an actual amethyst but it still has a very unique tint. #WhatsinFlower

Witch hazels (#Hamamelis species and hybrids) are lovely trees from North America and East Asia. Many of the common ones available to gardeners are beloved because they flower on bare stems around January, when not much else is happening, and so bring a bit of colour and joy to a bare garden.
The leaves and bark have many uses in traditional (and more modern) medicine. The #flowers are probably mostly fly-#pollinated but I guess in January they'll take whatever they can get!
