@wbtphdjd @Popehat A progressive view of history should be concerned less with the usually disappointing "Did a historical person comply with our current normal?" and more with "Did this person bring progress to humanity?" was almost certainly an authoritarian @$$hole by our standards, but he was also the most important in history.

The Amorites were a Semitic people who seem to have emerged from western Mesopotamia (modern-day Syria) at some point prior to the 3rd millennium BCE. In Sumerian they were known as the Martu or the Tidnum (in the Ur III Period), in Akkadian by the name of Amurru, and in Egypt as Amar, all of which mean 'westerners' or 'those of the west', as does the Hebrew name Amorite. Hammurabi (r. 1792-1750 BCE) was the sixth king of the Amorite First Dynasty of Babylon best known for his famous law code which served as the model for others, including the Mosaic Law of the Bible. He was the first ruler able to successfully govern all of Mesopotamia, without revolt, following his initial conquest.

@douginamug yes hashtags, if i look for i would find toot of laws about adultery, maybe not all of them are taggable. Your example may be tagged with "contract" i guess ?
