🚲Westbound Cycling on Cannon Street🚲
This route in #HamOnt is typically safer than its eastbound counterpart, but having to weave around parked vehicles and changing sides from one curb to the other can feel just as dangerous at times.
🚲Cycling Melvin Avenue🚲
This road in #HamOnt is essentially the continuation of Cannon Street.
It can get you to the bike lanes on Woodward Avenue, the Red Hill Valley Trail & across the RHV Parkway via the Barton Street Side Path.
So, it's a good one to know!
🚲Cycling Cannon Street Eastbound🚲
This route in #HamOnt can be slightly dangerous when traveling east, as drivers crossing or joining Cannon tend not to look left when entering intersections.
Perhaps an EB bike lane option is needed on Wilson...

James Gales is a 52 year old Black man who was the passenger in a car in #HamOnt when the car was pulled over by police. The vehicles documents were in order, but when James got out of the car, he was pursued by police and beaten so badly he ended up in hospital. His alleged crime was missing a probation meeting.
James was racially profiled, as police normally have no business investigating the passenger in a car when no criminal activity is suspected.
The Barton Prisoner Solidarity Project and the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion just released an interview with James from jail where he describes this racist attack. Transcript and audio are here:

I've been talking with James regularly for the last six months, and I know it means a lot to him that people hear his story. By sharing it, he's hoping to contribute to dismantling white supremacy and policing in #Ontario and around the world.
Introducing the NEW 2023 #HamOnt Bike Map!
WATCH

This is an amazing improvement over the old 2020 map
However...
We'll be covering this map in more detail in future episodes and looking at what can be improved for the next version.
🚲On the Other Side of Felker's Creek🚲
This trail is the final segment of #HamOnt's East Mountain Loop that we will be covering.
If you want to see the entire loop uninterrupted in one video, let me know, and I'll see about recording that soon!
The new homelessness protocol being established in #HamOnt shifts the burden of enforcement to encampment residents themselves, setting people up for conflict. It sets a maximum number of tents that van be together and a distance limit between clusters. This means tha if someone sets up a tent without following those guidelines, all the other people nearby become evictable. This means the pressure is on them to enforce the rules on the new person. This is pretty fucked up, in my opinion.
🚲Following Felker's Creek🚲
This route from Felker's Falls Conservation Area to the Heritage Greene Shopping Centre in #HamOnt (Upper Stoney Creek) keeps to the east side of the creek.
However, I do believe a trail extension through Valley Park is greatly needed, as there is clearly a missing connection!

The Paramount Paved Path in #HamOnt is an excellent paved trail that follows the Niagara Escarpment. it is part of the East Mountain Loop, the Bruce Trail, and can get you to Felker's Falls!
Prisoner Justice Day is one week today, August 10. On that day, prisoners across Canada will be refusing work and meals to commemorate those who have died inside prisons. This day has been marked since the 80s.
It's a great day to find ways to show solidarity with your incarcerated neighbours. In #HamOnt, people will be gathering outside the jail at 6pm.
I dream that some day Hamilton has a transit system that gets such a gushing video from RM Transit. Montreal is a wonderful city and already had a great metro. The new REM was planned, designed and built quickly (plan started in 2016) and well. Montreal shows what can be done when a city commits to transit, cycling, walking and open streets. #hamont #hamontlrt https://youtube.com/watch?v=g9O6RzsXIqQ&feature=share
