Activated Mount Saint Helens (W7W/LC-001) today with ND7Y and N7LFO. Great fun with 37 QSOs, 20 on 2m! I even got a cross-band QSO when working 40m SSB.

Tonight in #HamRadio digirig testing: 1) I tried to install VARA-FM under wine, but it fails mysteriously on launch. 2) Gave up on that and played some more with YAAC. Had more luck there and successfully exchanged APRS messages with another ham!

Got in the car, charged out to the bayside park, and pokey-poled up the steep path to the top of the 100m hill.

When I crested the ridge, the wind crashed into me, almost knocked off my glasses, and then ran off roaring, toward the Central Valley.

But I had my #HF radio with me. And parafoil #kite and reel. So I ran it up the kite, found some smooth air, hooked up the antenna.

Quick #6m #QRP QSO with a local commuter!

Tuned about, heard some, talked to none, then hiked down.

@CyrikCroc I like Bioenno batteries for their friendly voltage & because they are safer than lithium ion. (Even if at significantly lower energy density.)

Safety is important in general: LiFePO4 batteries still pack a lot of energy, in a small space. And ALL big batteries are dangerous, even lead acid!

So I'd rather not assemble them myself: I might mess up, and doing it safely is real work. To me it's not worth the savings.

Concentrate on other things, such as good fusing. #HamRadio

I was a bit worried that the rotary encoders would constantly get pressed when the bag’s inside my backpack, so I rearranged the contents and strategically placed the backup battery as a center support 😅
It’s a bit tight but it works and you can almost not tell from the outside 😆
