Ok, blacksmithing Mastodon, I have a question! I do not forge & am not interested in starting, but I am really enjoying watching Forged In Fire. I can't help but wonder what you do with the metal from failed blades. I assume you can't make a new blade with it, but can it be recycled/upcycled into something else?

Well, here is the current W.I.P. This chef's knife was hand forged from a LaBelle farriers rasp and has a solid brass bolster and Juma hilting block. I still need to finish the fine shaping on the hilt and bolster, then do final polish on everything, acetone and etch our mark into the blade, then put an edge on it.

Doing a Cut Test with one of my students knives. We are using a pool noodle here, because the material is soft, yet resistant and will bend or simple fall over if the edge alignment isn't perfect. Also, the soft foam will capture visual evidence of any edge irregularities as you make the cut. A perfect cutting medium?
