Weaving started! Yesterday was a rest day from the loom.

It is waste yarn at the front of the warp. My bench is Schacht's. As I feared it feels low. I'm getting used to the new feel. Yellow yarn is really yellow on a 24.5" wide warp! #weaving #LouetSpringLoom #floorloom #handweaving

Currently in progress in one of my looms: small towel. Warp is cotton, weft is a bit of an unknown but likely flax, but ramie and hemp are possible fiber as well. I'm getting close.

I got myself a table loom a few months ago. The first project was with some cotton-sock-yarn, that had some stretch. I used only 4 of the 8 shafts, the warp was a bit over 2 m (or so).

And then I got a bit cocky - 8 shafts, cottolin, 24 epi / 96 ends per 10 cm, 7 m warp, block twill. Dish towels.

Didn't go too well - I had to rebeam the whole warp, but now it works.

So. I’m not entirely happy with how the sample came out. Entirely too much weft - this lovely warp yarn just disappears under all that and I’m not really seeing the pattern either. It’s pooooooosible I didn’t do the lift plan (table loom, no treadles) properly but I doubt it, I’m not sure whether I should try a finer weft or a different draft (but hopefully same threading?) altogether.

I've crossed a weaving milestone! I made my first ever repair heddle. I'd come to the end of my threading and had a warp thread leftover that I shouldn't have. I found the skipped shaft smack in the middle and set myself to fixing it, slowly backtracking and correcting until I got to the spot. And then... I did an Internet search. Bless you, all you experienced weavers who share your knowledge. Voila - I had MADE A HEDDLE.

New weaving project! The warp is a merino/silk blend in a beautiful varigated green and gold. The weft is a peacock blue tencel. I'm hoping this 8-shaft draft (#26924 from Handweaving.net) will give a lovely peacock feathers look with these two yarns. We'll see - I haven't sampled yet. This is something I made. It is a largish tote bag, made of handwoven cotton cloth that was supposed to be dishtowel fabric, but I went crazy with the beater, and it has a much firmer texture. I decorated it with a simple embroidered band edging shell button/glass beads, then twisted the self-fringe and topped each off with a bead.

I'm a little over halfway through my first sample; there are 8 samples in the project.
Then I'll take it to school and my wonderful, meticulous instructor will praise all the things I did right and gently note all the things I did wrong.
(To anyone who teaches for a living, I strongly recommend taking classes in something you are Not Very Good at. Valuable #pedagogical experience.)
