It always strikes me how the #ISO standard #language designations belie some lack of understanding of cultures that weren't brought in for them.

Like, the abbreviation for #한국 / #한글 (#Hangug / #Hangul) is "KO", for "#Korean", when that's not what the language is called by native speakers, nor is it really even a word in that language. I think the best one would have been "HG", but these people never asked someone who even knew a bit of the language.

Meanwhile, they correctly labeled #Deutsch as "DE", and not "#German", which is good because "German" is not a word in Deutsch and many people from Deutschland don't know English and might legitimately not know what it refers to.

It just feels like we're dealing with inconsistencies caused by legacy #eurocentrism when we use these old designations for modern technology: I'm coding a website in #HTML that I want to have options for EN, DE, ES, and KO, and that's super weird when you've learned enough of all four to know the reality.

ATTN all who have been bitten by the drama or kpop bug or those who merely want to learn hangul: the Korean Culture Centre in Ottawa will begin registering on Aug 4 for Zoom autumn classes.

$50 for a 13 wk course and some resources are free. There appear to be multiple levels with each divided into 2 parts. If like in previous yrs, these will be offered again in the winter if you are ready for the next level.

I found DuoLingo’s hangul learning (it’s not part of the regular lesson plan, but another icon on the screen takes you to the hangul learning area - where you write the characters) works really well for me.

I couldn't resume learning #japanese , since I've been procrastinating it for too long already. Instead I've decided to learn #hangul and #korean
Reading and writing definitely looks simpler compared to Japanese. There are no kanjis in Korean and there is a logic behind the syllables and their pronunciation.
And of course I'm super-motivated by the amazing #kdrama productions 😀

None of the phishing pages were active when we tried to visit them. Strangely enough, while the AWS sites simply reported that the phishing pages had been taken down, the #spam that referenced #Interac and linked through shortlink services all landed on pages written in #Hangul, the alphabet of the #Korean language.
One link caused the browser to redirect itself to a page written in Korean and hosted on the website belonging to the parent organization of the Jehovah's Witnesses, for example. There's no indication anything malicious was ever hosted on that site. All the sites that landed on pages in Korean came from #spam messages that referenced #Interac specifically. 5/9

I’ve been #bulletjournaling for years & for ‘23 I’m simplifying to this two-page spread. I’m hoping this will simplify my life (and decrease the need to control and track everything) so I can concentrate on other things like creating!
