Just over a week ago. Time moves too fast.

These moments start off as an expression of the moment, then dilute into reflections of the day, then rest on a hard drive for a little bit and if they're lucky they resurface with a sense of urgency. "Please don't forget us" they quietly echo.

My favourite moments with a camera are when the light throws you a scene you never previously imagined. And then you're just standing there thinking what a magic moment, only you're holding a camera and can copy that moment and years later share the photo on Mastodon for anyone to enjoy.

I visit this village usually once a year. I always promise to bring back prints of the photos for the locals. Normally it's the children we capture, and then the parents have a photo to put on the wall when they go away to college.

This time it was the other way around, they wanted a photo to give to their children when they leave the village. So they made us a cup of tea while we breathed in the light.

The light in Himalayan winters is an absolute gift to photographers. Cool air, clear skies and low angle of the sun.

Only trouble is of course the mountains will steal the very early and very late light. On the plus side, you get a little more time to download and process the photos :)

Welcome to Bhutan in late 2019, just before the entire world stopped. In many ways the world beyond Bhutan does stop when you visit, which is one reason I keep going back.

What a week. And it's only Tuesday.

My mind is swirling with clients and deadlines and plans and issues and life lessons and that really stupid muscle high on the shins that turns to concrete when I walk too fast.

Bhutan is calling me however. This year is my year to bring a few people back to Bhutan and immerse ourselves in their culture and kindness. Covid has stood in the way for three years. That all changes in 2023.

I love that so few words in Latin can inspire a vast collection of thoughts. “Solvitur Ambulando” translates roughly as “It is solved by walking”, and for most of us we can immediately pinpoint more than one meaning to this expression. For the body, for the mind, for our peace of mind, for our problem solving, for resting our attention, for our disconnecting, for our re-connecting, for our contemplation, for our restoration.
