Super excited to dip my toe into #solar with the #Jackery #Explorer290 and a #HarborFreight 100W solar panel.

The 290 is made specific for certain stores and has a built in MPPT charge controller AND an AC inverter. So for a few hundred USD, I was able to charge my Jackery to 100% then charge my laptop, my phone, air up bike tires, charge my drill batteries etc etc...

the issue with these #harborfreight illumination devices is that you need to unscrew it to change the batteries. this design would be more suitable for a usb rechargeable device. but you could add that functionality with Ni-MH cells and nothing more than a USB connector, resistor and diode.

I was in two minds whether to put this video out there. It's basically a video in which nothing happens. I have a solar panel that measured at 6v a few days ago and then when I was going to dismantle in a few days later came in at 15v+. I think the problem is that water had got into the innards and insulated the connections then evaporated and permitted connection. It IS a faulty #solar panel but right now I'm perplexed about what to do with it - whether to go ahead and dismantle it and see if I can fix it and risk destroying it or whether to regard it as a part-time panel that sometimes generates electricity (a supplemental panel). At the moment it's leaning against a fence because there seems little point in having a part-time solar panel. Needless to say I'm not greatly impressed by this Thunderbolt Magnum Harbor Freight solar panel - even though it had rough treatment from a vandal.

I’m debating getting a 14” bandsaw from Harbor Freight. I know there’s a few mods out there to improve it; upgraded tires, upper guide, blade, and a riser block for resaw capacity. These upgrades seem to be a standard recommendation for most brands that I’ve looked at various price points. The general thoughts I’ve found have been its a good choice for a hobbiest, which I am.

I've been following the #projects tag for a while, but keep forgetting to contribute.

Small project last weekend: I've been doing a lot of home improvement type things the last couple of months, at a remote location, so I chose to add some wheels to my #ridgid #stack.

I chose not to use the standard wheeled bottom box because I just didn't need something that big, or the added expense.

I grabbed one of the $10 #blackfriday moving dollies from #harborfreight, disassembled, then reused the long sections as both support and a template for the wheels. Baddabing, one hacked Ridgid Crate.

It supports my medium and small boxes perfectly and rolls fine over hard surfaces, which is good enough for me.
