Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - "Hard Promises" released this day in 1981.

During the recording of the album, John Lennon was scheduled to be in the same studio at the same time. Petty was looking forward to meeting him. The meeting never occurred. Petty & the band paid tribute to the slain Lennon "WE LOVE YOU J.L." in the runout on early U.S. and Canadian pressings of "Hard Promises".

MCA Records pretendía que el cuarto disco de #TomPetty, #HardPromises, publicado el 5 de mayo de 1981, tuviera el precio de estrella, es decir, un valor superior al estándar, pero el compositor después de una larga discusión logró mantener el valor del disco al precio habitual. Seguramente, recordaba sus propias búsquedas por las disquerías de Gainesville cuando era adolescente en tiempos de bolsillos flacos. Y quizás, así también se explique la imagen que grafica la tapa del álbum.
