(1) #HASHTAGS - Text search is disabled on this platform, which means the only searchable text is text that is #hashtagged. Without hashtags, your post will only be found by people that follow you and happen to be online when you post it.

@mmasnick @thurrott I've found that to be similar to my own experience! This has been a much more wholesome and rewarding place to engage with friendly people. Just the other day I posted some photos of the moon and #hashtagged them (not overly so, just a few appropriate ones) and was blown away by the amount of engagement I got! Boosts from even quite previously unknown astronomy focused accounts, a few of which are now mutual follows.

Starting #1899 (that SHOULD'VE #hashtagged, but didn't) last night. Got 15 min into the episode and was so tired, I had to go to sleep.

Gonna finish it today. Looks AMAZING!

@hendrik @zbecker I think you might like “Fake Relay”. I’ve not had a chance to set it up but it sounds like it’s the answer to your problem. It will allow your instance to pull in specific posts from any instance, for example #hashtagged stuff from a larger instance. A few hoops to jump through to get it up and running but may be worth it.

And youre teaching someone how to work a website not it's architecture. First anyone who has gamed knows what a server is. People can pick up on concepts without getting too literal with the analogies.

Sorry about the burst of tooting, there was a small bug (not among the ones we like) preventing #pubmed papers without Drosophila in the first few lines of abstract from being tooted.
There may still be pubmed papers that don't make it to being tooted because they don't have Drosophila in title either, but still I could get them via RSS search on pubmed. I'll try to do that some time soon.

I have been on #mastodon for nearly a month. With that, I have essentially stopped using #twitter. This is my new online forever home. 🤣 I don't like #toxicity in the water I drink, so I certainly don't need it on the web.

It is so good here. And I think I have finally gotten the hang of all the quirks to this place (I will probably make mistakes and blunders with mastodon, so please be patient and forgiving!). 🙏

Initially, I felt voracious, absorbing all the toots and reading every article. But I think I have reached a saturation point with the amount of toots I am seeing. I am following over 500 people now and as much as I want to #GottaCatchEmAll, I simply can't see all the toots! I have removed my local and federated feeds from the #tusky app because I don't have the time to browse them in addition to my home feed, my hashtag feed, and my notification feed (which is in addition of course to my time in the real world).

So to all my #vegan friends, if you posted a clever, funny, insightful, interesting, topical, controversial, or newsworthy toot about #veganism, #AnimalRights, #AnimalWelfare, and/or their connections to #ClimateChange and the #ClimateEmergency, and I don't favourite it, boost it, or comment on it, it probably means I missed it amongst the sea of other toots, and it wasn't #hashtagged.

Please #hashtag your toots like it's 2007! 🙃🥳🤘

I’ve always “cameled” #MyHashtags (even rewriting them when auto text would insert them in all lower case) & always used them as search tools. Thats why I was always one of those #TwitterUsers who #Hashtagged everything in their #Comments & refused to use the names of real names of people who wanted to trend so badly (you know, like Matty, Marj, Bozo, Gym or the 2x impeached loser of the last election) 😂

I've heard the suggestion that Facebook is great if you're interested in people, and Twitter is great if you're interested in ideas. That was certainly the reason that I favoured Twitter!
