You may not have noticed, but aus.social has increased its character limit to 3,000 🔥

Great for circumstances when you just need that little bit extra (aus.social/@MarkIngs/109795975)

I have begun to get organised and created a hashtag index. It is intended as a reference tool for myself and others so please let me know if you would like any hashtags added

I’ve been playing with the web application for Mastodon and discovered you can use html in toots! For example when entered in markup, such as a link #<a href="https://instance/tags/hashtag">hashtag</a>, it provides a link to the “Hashtag” hashtag without showing up under that hashtag.

Similarly, the <b>bold</b>, <i>italics</I> and <u>underline</u> commands work when using the web version. Examples of the reference links can be found here toot.cat/@Hashtags/11041323213

I’ve been spending a bit of time on another instance and have been quite surprised how different the Mastodon experience can be. As an example, following the hashtag , logged on to aus.social I get the toots in the left image while on toot.cat I get those on the right. The toots on each instance do not show on the other

This is due to the different servers each instance blocks. This is partly why when I post a hashtag list intended to show popular hashtags (aus.social/@MarkIngs/109795975), sometimes a popular hashtag may not seem to have many toots showing up. That might be due to you viewing the hashtag from a particular instance that blocks most of the toots under that hashtag whereas viewing from another instance displays the toots

As an aside I created an account on toot.cat because it has an increased character limit of 100,000. Not that I intend posting tombs of information, but it allows me to post more comprehensive popular hashtag lists. Presently I have posted only anchoring toots so as not to bombard multiple current timelines with the same list (toot.cat/@Hashtags)
