Plenty of egg box roosting in the moth trap overnight. Catalogued, photographed and safely released to carry on their mothy business. Some of the nicer ones included:

Lovely Canary-shouldered thorn (1&2) came to visit last night. Love the vivid yellow head. Compare to the plainer, slightly stubbier … but just as cute … Dusky Thorn (3&4).

Pluvial and crisp last night. A few moths on the wing, especially Pale Mottled Willows and Large Yellow Underwings. Best of the visitors were:

Vegetable moths out last night. The rather pretty 1) Cabbage Moth and 2) Turnip Moth.
Also my first 3) Palpita Vitrealis of 2023 and the sparkliest, mintest 4) Yellow Shell. A real beauty!

Last night I was visited by two tigers! A Garden Tiger (L) and Jersey Tiger (R). Also visiting was a feather-combed Male Gypsy Moth (2), a Bloxworth Snout (3) and the greyscale patterned Knot Grass (4)

Popped down to the #beach to see the #shipwreck of The Amsterdam (sank 26 Jan 1749). Much of her cargo of textiles, wine, cannons and bullion still sits in the hold many metres below the sand. You can see the bow and sides and towards the rear an outer metal guard that was put in during an #excavation which helps with #preservation. Wreck only visible a few times a year at very low tide. Some oddities in the trap last night
1) Small Plume - oxyptilus parvidactyla - only 11 officially recorded in Sussex according to Sussex Moth Group.
2) Long-legged tabby - synaphe punctalis - coastally common but rather uncommon around the rest of the country
3) Wormwood Pug - common as muck, but this is my first encounter
