Back in 2016, before I made my Krampus costume, I dragged my husband into being the ghost of Marley to my Scrooge for the town's holiday festival. I sewed my costume. I put him in my Poe clothes. I did our makeup and even made that fake candle. Speaking of #haunters, my origin is with an amazing non-profit haunt. None of us were paid, and we, as a group, worked insanely long hours in punishing conditions to produce some of the most impressive haunt characters and haunt scenes I've ever seen in any haunt, no matter the money behind it.

A friend described paid haunted attraction workers vs us: "They're like hitmen: they do it for fun and profit. You're like serial killers: You don't have a choice."
