The cunning folk know that the light at the end of the tunnel is deceiving. For I tell you this, you must walk through the dark first and even those of the cunning don’t know what spectres await to trip your mortal bones as you journey past.

Stood up again. Time to get drunk.
"Whiskey, neat," I tell the waiter.
"I'll have a cosmo," the empty space beside me chirps.
At dinner, the empty space orders a salad and laughs at all my jokes.
"We have so much in common," the says. "We're both invisible."

Not every day you see a fatty ghost, is it?

How about a ghost that wants to have his way with making you as fat and round as he is?

For fans, I recommend watching Amityville:An Origin Story if you can get it. I learned a lot of new information. This is a complex social drama that you probably didn’t expect.

Not sure what made this pop into my head tonight. I have not heard this theme nor seen the movie in most likely decades.

A few days back, I stayed for two nights in a hotel that's allegedly haunted. For privacy reasons, I won't be naming the hotel publicly. But, if we're close mutuals and you're really, really curious, feel free to DM me for the name.

When I first checked in and went up to my room, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, but I wasn't picking up on any haunted vibes. Though I wonder if I would have felt something if I'd stayed in the room more on the first night; I spent more time sightseeing and shopping around town. But things got more interesting during the second night.

After another eventful day of activities, I returned to my room and took a shower. Now, the shower was quite small, had no bathtub, and had a lever handle to control the temperature. If you turned the lever toward the right, the water would get warmer. If you turned the lever all the way to the left, the water would get colder and eventually turn off entirely. While the lever wasn't too hard to turn, it did take a bit of pressure to turn it in either direction. This part's important. Since I like my showers hot, I turned the lever almost all the way to the right. After I achieved the ideal water temperature, I turned my back to the shower controls and faced the opposite wall while soaping up.

After about 10 minutes or so (I know, I take long showers lol), I noticed the water suddenly wasn't as hot as it was just a few minutes prior. I didn't think it was strange, though, since I figured other people must have been using the hot water too. Either that or the shower had some kind of eco control to prevent excessive hot water waste. It didn't bother me at first, but then the water just kept getting colder and colder.

When I turned around to turn up the temperature, I was met with a shocking sight. The lever to control the water temperature? It was turning on its own, as if someone were turning down the temperature. I stared at the lever, watching it slowly inch closer and closer to the left. Dumbfounded, I grabbed the handle and pushed the lever back to the right. Almost immediately, it began to turn back to the left. I tried again. And again, it began to move on its own.

It wasn't until I twisted the lever to the right *again* that it finally stayed in place. And I kept my eye on it for the remainder of my shower. But even then, I didn't feel like I was alone anymore.

Afterwards, I decided to do some research into the hotel's haunting. While I was familiar with many of the alleged occurrences, I tried not to dig too deeply into people's individual experiences to avoid priming myself before walking in. In my research, I found a Reddit post from someone who had stayed in the same hotel. Strangely, they spoke of water faucets and the shower turning on and off throughout the night, controlled by an invisible force.

I have just completed my 2022 update of the Fencraft Reading List

fencraft.leprd.space/ReadingLi

Do you like folklore? Want to learn about the history of magic? Enjoy 1970s pastoral weird counterculture or creepy children's television?

Are you absolutely horrified by the immensity of the ocean and want to prod that feeling with a stick until it starts creeping up on you as you walk down the street unexpectedly, the knowledge that the sea is just there, fathomlessly deep and impossibly cold, and more mysterious to us than the moon?

Never not be sure what to do on ritual night when you're too sleepy again! Reading texts with a spiritual mood is a kind of meditative act to keep the invisible world in mind.

During research for my 2018 book Noisesome Ghosts, which focuses on and that have the ability to write or speak, I found an concentration of these rare & communicative entities in . In my 2020 article in Paranormal Review (95) I make the case for Glasgow as being the ghost capital of (if not the globe). The writing or speaking there include: the crisis of Bounce (a dog) which appeared to its former mistress in Glasgow & spoke in a human voice (1908), the anniversary of George Ferguson which gave details of its own murder (1913), a council estate where a made an accurate warning about a serious medical condition (1960s), the poltergeist: where a bed tapped out the tune of ‘The Dead March’ (1974-1975), the case of John Adams: which included effects and possession (1970s, 1990s), the East End, Glasgow poltergeist: where electronic voice phenomena () were recorded (1990s), the of airline Captain Robert D. Macleod that accompanied its own dead body through Glasgow airport & spoke to colleagues (1995), poltergeist phenomena at a twenty-first century building re-development which included responsive raps & an screaming “GET OUT!” at a researcher & the poltergeist where an entity terrorised a young family & traced letters in flour (2011-2012).
