English soldiers in France, in this time period, all using (what appear to be very modern) American flatbows. Nary an English longbow to be seen! Disgraceful, right? 😂
Sorry it's been a while since I've hit the range. 😅
This morning's #archery session brought to you by my very-fancy-looking, but actually very cheap, #Mongolian style #bow. I don't shoot it very much because honestly it feels bad to shoot. Unlike both the #Turkish and #Korean horsebows I have, the limbs on this are not laminated wood cores, they are solid fibreglass (obviously wrapped very prettily), and the way the energy from a shot transfers is kind of amazing actually.
It travels through your body and thumps you right in the back of the neck. It's like being punched. Sounds ridiculous but I've had several people shoot it with the same result, just to be sure I wasn't imagining it, or it was my technique. First time I shot it, I dropped the bow it was such a shock. Never felt anything like it before or since.
Anyway you can kinda mitigate it a bit with #khatra, so every now and then I bring this thing out and remind myself why I'd rather shoot literally anything else. It does look nice though! #HaveABowtifulDay

Switched things up slightly with today's morning #shoot, going with my #Samick SKB #bow. It's a #Korean style bow (or #horsebow), which at 40lb draw, is lighter than my #Turkish one, meaning it's easier on my thumb. On the flip side the handle is not wrapped at all, the edge of the wooden handle digs into my hand. It comes with a rubber handle but that needs to be glued on and I haven't had the will (or the knowledge) to do it. It's a bit of a weird arrangement. The other thing is a lack of arrow pass, so I can see arrows are marking the side. I need to look up good options for these.
Anyway it's a solid bow, easy to shoot, probably a good one for me to continue with while I build up thumb strength.
Anywho, enjoy your #archery and #HaveABowtifulDay.

Cheeky quick #shoot this morning with my #Alibow #Turkish style #horsebow, working on my #thumbdraw. Thumb is not used to this punishment (I really want a ring rather than the leather tabs I'm using), and the #bow is 45lbs so it's going to be a slooowwww build. I can't even reach full draw with it at the moment, but I could, once upon a time so I know I can get back there. Might be interesting to practice this one left handed too! Also I generally think this bow is rather pretty.

Just a lil morning shoot. Wasn't especially on-target today.
Spot of morning #archery with my #Martin #Saber. It's a really nice #bow, smooth draw, quiet. I know Martin limbs don't have the best reputation, but honestly I can't complain. When my form is right, the #arrows hit uncannily close together - perfect for instinctive shooting. Also starting to shoot out the centre of my target, which is a good problem to have!

@nemo You're welcome! I've been out of action for a year or more because my old target frame broke, and I just finished finally building a new one last week, so I'm building back up myself, and tagging all my recent under #HaveABowtifulDay if you want to follow along :)
I have a few bows in different styles and weights - what's yours?
Got some time to sling some #arrows, started with the Cartel Epic Hawk (30lb), but then switched out to my relatively new (second hand, but new to me) Martin Saber (40lb). Managed a nice little grouping (the top arrow was the first shot with the #bow). It's really nice to shoot, but the riser is HEAVY, and I got fatigued quite quickly so didn't manage to replicate any grouping as good as that first one.

So good to get out on the #range again! And by range I mean my carport. Shot a few ends with my baby, my first #bow, the Cartel Epic Hawk (30lb). Started off rough, but reigned in my #arrow grouping by the end. I am way out of practice, but at least now I *can* practice again! Gotta build up those muscles and muscle memory, and I'm looking forward to it.

And... DONE. #Archery #Target complete! Love those first #arrows on fresh paper. These are literally the first arrows I've shot in probably a year or more. Granted I was only a couple of metres away, but I just needed a quick test without moving the car. 😁
Also shooting #thumbdraw on my #alibow #turkish #bow which has been even longer, and I definitely need to build back up again. Looking forward to daily #shooting again.

#Archery target coming along nicely. Need a few more reinforcements to make it more stable during shooting, but nearly there! 🎯🎯🎯 #HaveABowtifulDay
Framing my #archery target mark2. The previous one did well and lasted a decent amount of time but the unpainted wood started to rot since it was out in the weather 24/7, and eventually it fell apart. Hoping to get twice as long out of this one since I'm protecting it a bit with some outdoor paint left over from when I had my house painted. It's been a long time since I've been able to shoot at home! #HaveABowtifulDay
