Japan's #Hayabusa2 probe brought back a molecular component of #RNA and vitamin B (niacin) in the carbon sample it took from asteroid Ryugu. That's (some of) ingredients for life in outer #space.

Les équipes analysant les échantillons de l'astéroïde #Ryugu ont détecté la présence d'uracile, l'une des "lettres de l'alphabet génétique" de l'ARN. Un très beau succès (un de plus !) pour la mission japonaise #Hayabusa2. Ca ne veut évidemment pas dire qu'il y a de la vie sur Ryugu, mais que ce type d'objet a pu apporter sur Terre des ingrédients importants pour l'émergence de la vie.

A new study of samples brought back from the #Ryugu asteroid by the #JAXA mission #Hayabusa2, helped to characterize and map different types of carbonate minerals within the samples.
A near-infrared hyperspectral microscope developed by #IAS has been analyzing the entire collection of samples. Hundreds of carbonate-rich zones were detected, including carbonate-rich grains and inclusions that formed within the first millions of years of evolution of our #SolarSystem.

But when the sample was returned to Earth, analysis found it packed with hydrated minerals. Sooooo why the contradiction?! Turns out, space weathering can dry out just the top layer.
