Fantastic morning out at Haystack Rock. The hundreds of these critters circling the rock had all headed out to sea by 8:30am!

And though you can’t see ‘em, there are TUFTED PUFFINS in that flock – it’s nesting season, and I spotted a couple hanging out by their burrows on the upper right hand slope.

Those are “lifers” for me, and I also added harlequin ducks, black oystercatchers, a Pacific loon and a Caspian tern to my list. ☺️

Haystack Rock Blue Hour

Haystack Rock is the dominate rock feature on Oregon's Canon Beach just south of Astoria Oregon.
This beach is a true gem. It is all that much nicer when you have a beautiful sunset fading into the blue hour. The beach is wide and the ocean is shallow at this point, so the waves roll out for a good distance leaving a beautiful reflective surface for the setting sun. I’ve been working on some panoramas. This is the center image of an eventual panorama of a Needle, Haystack Rock, and people walking on the beach at Cannon Beach.

It is going to require more editing than I have energy for right now, specifically due to the waves, a tricky bit to merge.

So you’re only getting the middle, Haystack Rock with two birds flying and a gorgeous blue September sky.
