The Head Fire is 6,739 acres & 29% contained. The Happy Camp Complex is 17,847 acres & 15% contained. 3,311 personnel assigned. Evening update from officials: Another active day occurred on the Happy Camp Complex, as weather conditions remained dry and fuels burned easily. A southwest wind aided firefighters by blowing the active fire front back into the area already burned.

The Head Fire is 6,683 acres & 19% contained. The Happy Camp Complex is 16.617 acres & 15% contained. 3,284 personnel assigned. Evening complex update from officials: A virtual public meeting and update will occur for the Happy Camp Complex on Saturday, August 25th, at 5:30 p.m. Fire personnel will provide an operational overview of the fire situation.

The Head Fire is now 6,648 acres & 19% contained. The overall Happy Camp Complex is 15,972 acres & 11% contained w/ 2,927 personnel assigned. Evening update: An increase in fire activity indicated today that the fuels around the Happy Camp Complex are drying out. The temperature rose, and relative humidity dropped as the inversion lifted.

From Siskiyou County sheriff’s Office: State Route 96 is now OPEN!
One-way traffic control remains in place in several areas while crews work to repair damaged infrastructure, remove debris, and stabilize slopes. Delays at the locations with one-way traffic control will be up to 15 minutes. For the exact locations where this work is taking place, please use QuickMap.dot.ca.gov.

Per the morning update, the Head Fire is 6,489 acres and 13% contained. Today, firefighters will continue to build direct lines on all the fires on the east side of the complex. Containment is increasing as they move forward. Additional resources have been moved to the Head fire from lower-priority fires in the complex.

Head Fire update: Today the fire was active on the east side. Firefighters used limited tactical firing operations to keep the line even and prevent large runs from occurring. On the north side of the Head Fire, firefighters worked on a dozer line north toward Horse Creek and addressed a 17 acre spot fire to the north of the main fire.

The Klamath National Forest is issuing an emergency closure order for two portions of the forest: Happy Camp Ranger District The closure order extends from Happy Camp south to the Marble Mountain Wilderness boundary at Norcross Recreation Area. The closure continues west along the edge of the Marble Mountain Wilderness to the Siskiyou Wilderness boundary.

From Siskiyou County Zone 1123 has been split. Resulting Zone 1123 B to the west remains in an evacuation order. Zone 1123-A to the east has been reduced to an evacuation warning.

The Elliot, Three Creeks and Canyon Fires were monitored with structure protection work ongoing as the fires back down toward Highway 96. An Infrared (IR) flight was requested for last night, though was unable to fly. New IR information has been unavailable for several days and fire footprints on maps are not as accurate…Firefighters on-the-ground are providing current information for operations and planning. Once IR information is available, fire perimeters will be updated…
