When you're weary, feeling small, when you're down(hearted) and out and evening falls so hard, seeing bright, vibrant colors can make a world of difference.
The brilliant color in our garden of a fall-blooming rose of Sharon with its lilac petals and carmine and ivory center. The beautiful colors of peppers from our garden with ones brought to us by a neighbor as the peppers simmer in olive oil and garlic.

"But if you could heal a broken heart, wouldn't time be out to charm you.” This quote has always been one of my favorites.
Since we don't have this healing ability, remember that time is your ally. It teaches us that healing isn't about erasing the past; it's about learning to coexist with our scars.
Our hearts are resilient and have the power to heal and love again.

Thoughts on Forgiveness
A lot of people believe that forgiveness is necessary for healing, and that forgiving others is crucial. That forgiveness is for other people.
Those are all false.
Forgiveness cannot be realized or become authentic if the person who caused the harm does not engage in repair.
If the other person refuses to engage in repair, then the forgiveness is like a bandaid on an infected and bloody wound.
The person who did the harm? Without doing repair, they are likely to do the harm again. So it ends up a cycle, where the person causing harm demands forgiveness but yet continues the harmful behavior.
The person offering forgiveness often ends up trapped in an abusive situation. I have been there, where I held out forgiveness in a wild hope that things will improve, that healing could happen. Except, the other person refused to engage in repair, and that hope turned to despair and bitterness.
In such a situation, forgiveness can't be authentic, and instead becomes a temporary shield to try to deflect the worst of the harm. For me, I used it as a shield to de-escalate the harm before it reached really scary levels, but my words weren't authentic at that point. It was only said to help me survive a bad situation.
Forgiveness cannot be healing if the harm continues to happen. The wounds from the harm hasn't been given space or care to heal.
By engaging in repair, trust is slowly rebuilt, healing is given space to happen, and that opens up the possibility of forgiveness.
Repair is accountability. By holding oneself accountable and doing actions to repair the harm, one shows that trust is possible again, that healing of the relationship/friendship is possible. It builds that bridge, and the survivor will see that possibility and decide whether it is healthy for them to cross it or not. A choice that the one who harmed must accept and respect.
Yes, forgiveness is for the survivor mostly, but again, forgiveness is a bridge built upon the acts of repair. The bridge cannot exist without the repair done by the one who harmed, and it is the survivor's choice to cross the bridge of forgiveness or to not cross it. No one else can make that decision for the survivor.
Forgiveness is a request for a better future and present. It's what you build after the foundation is rebuilt through the act of repair. Forgiveness is a hope that things are and will continue to improve, and healing between those involved are given space to happen.
For that healing of relationships/friendships/etc to actually happen? For that hope to be fulfilled?
Repair must be done.
Forgiveness is more than words. It's a process.
A process that starts with the other holding themselves accountable and engaging in repair, where those involved build up a foundation of hope and trust. In this process, something new is built in the ruins of the old. The final part of the process is the choice of the survivor, and for the repair to be authentic, respect for that decision must be given.
But for that to happen, those involved need to commit to that repair, to that hope, to that building up, and most importantly, follow through.
Forgiveness is not necessary for healing, and it is okay for a survivor to choose to not cross that bridge, to not forgive the harm done.
It is simply a process for rebuilding, which is a journey we can take or we can choose not to take, and each of those possible decisions are valid.
My Story as an Example
I'm a survivor of conversion therapy. I had a friend who pushed for me to do it, because that was what she'd been taught. She'd been saturated by anti-LGBT messages, but after I escaped and in the years where I chose to heal, I talked with her off and on.
She asked for forgiveness once, and I asked her, "Can I trust that you won't do this to me again? Or to anyone else?"
She looked at me and considered my question with an intensity I'd never seen from her before, and she said, "Yes. I will work toward that, and I hope I can earn it back."
She followed through and proved that her words were true. That is when I realized I could forgive her, because she engaged in repair. Because she showed that she meant it.
In contrast, my parents, who drove me to conversion therapy, still to this day refuse to acknowledge the harm. They often gaslight me about it. Sometimes mocking me if I bring it up.
When I asked that same question, they gaslit me instead and engaged in DARVO tactics (Deny, Accuse, Reversed Victim and Offender).
I realized they had no intention to ever acknowledge the harm, to ever engage in repair. They refused to admit they hurt me.
Without that intent to repair and the follow through, I realized I couldn't forgive them, because trying to forgive them only exposed me to more harm and abuse.
So I walked away. It took me almost eight years to finally walk away, to cut them out of my life for my safety and health. Because I misunderstood what forgiveness was at the time. I thought if I told them I had forgiven them, that it could somehow repair things.
But it can't. Saying "I forgive you" to someone who hurt you will not repair things. Instead, it only brought me more pain, because that hope of things improving, of healing happening, of being able to repair that broken relationship? That was destroyed again and again with their refusal to engage in repair. So my words became meaningless, they served only to soothe my parents' egos rather than aid in my own healing.
It is why I had to stop. Why I had to walk away, because staying in such a relation was hurting me. Forgiveness couldn't be realized because no repair happened. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life to cut off my parents, but I've been better off for it. My health improved not having that toxicity in my life.
It's on the other person to step up and say, "I acknowledge that I hurt you. I want to repair that. To earn back your trust. I have a few ideas on how to do this, but are you open to repairing this? And what would be best for you?"
That acknowledgement and offer of repair starts the process of laying out a foundation for the bridge. Then the necessary follow through of actually doing the repair solidifies the bridge, so that forgiveness may walk across it and truly be realized.
Forgiveness is never about forgetting. It's never about leaving it in the past. To forgive and forget isn't true forgiveness, instead, it's simply denial. The harm still happened. The hurt still lies coiled within the survivor. Trust is still broken.
Forgiveness cannot be realized or become authentic if the person who caused the harm does not engage in repair.

I made this picture some time ago. At the time it was reflecting something that filled my consciousness and that I could not express any other way. I think it shows something akin to what yayoi kusamas infinity nets do. There is a little opening in every cell, in every particle inside every tiny structure of life and also of consciousness. It's like a little mouth infinity speaks through. And if this mouth opens and some vibration comes through, all the structures begin to vibrate first the tiny and then the bigger ones and our world changes. We change. And if we are not flexible enough we will have chaos ( which we have ). And all the fear that is hunkered in the subconscious and the trauma that is remembered in the cells must vibrate with the opening. That's contributing to why we see a rising of vulnerability and mental illness. But it brings healing in the end.
It's just a different viewpoint that opens, when you put your system in a different frequency. A different, maybe spiritual space.
But I can't live in these boxes. Spiritual , mundane. They don't fit me.
I am just thankful that I did not experience the same amount of fear that yayoi kusama had, when trying to integrate this experience.
Words don't really express how it feels to integrate a "spiritual" viewpoint. I just know it's tied in with my hyperconnected and autistic brain. And it's a fine balance. Because it comes with a ton of energy. And makes you scramble for connection and reflection in the culture around you, so you can understand yourself. But in the end it gives me hope. I can use this perspective to broaden my mind and to see, that what we experience, this crisis, is part of something bigger. And that there is a positive life-force behind all that we fear being in our face at the present moment.
I can also use it too loose fear of death. I was a bit stunned when my mother died and I did not experience death as an end or a separation. I had a visceral sense of her moving on and everything being just fine. I think integrating these frequencies in which we see the underlying reality into our culture would help everyone. And reduce mental illness. The dominant culture tends to numb us to that. this experience comes with a great need for space and sensitivity that must be put into creating a good space for oneself. But that is a good thing. I can use that motivation to guide my way. It's all about interconnectedness in the end. Nets symbolize that. And we need that more than anything. I think we need our crazy artists, spiritual stargazers and neurodivergents to be a part of moving forward. Everyone needs that part of themselves.

I want to talk about disability representation and healing in Legend of Korra.
I know Legend of Korra only calls the poison "metal" and doesn't ever identify it, but based on these facts:
1. silvery-grey
2. Is in liquid form at room temperature
3. Causes neurological symptoms
4. Causes inability to feel limbs
5. Causes inability to walk or loss of coordination and/or balance
6. Vision problems
7. Severe pain
This all fits with Mercury poisoning. Now mercury poisoning is a slow neurotoxin killer. It has to build up over time in order to kill someone, which is why Zaheer and his lackeys put a shit-ton of it into Korra. She had to have so much in her blood for it to work fast enough to actually take her down in the Avatar state. This also accelerated her symptoms.
And it's why she is in a wheelchair unable to move or feel her legs, why she has neurological issues afterward, and why it takes her so long to recover and learn how to walk and have coordination and balance again.
Mercury poisoning if left in the system for a long time can cause kidney and brain damage; however, lucky for Korra it's not in her system long enough. Barely an hour or so I think? It's hard to say about passing of time in that show, but Team Avatar and others got to her pretty fast. So that means it wasn't in there long enough for permanent brain and kidney damage.
However, she'd still need to be regularly checked for any neurological issues that might pop up overtime. This could include vision problems, nerve issues such as nerve pain or tenderness or numbness, tingling in her extremities, and others more specific to the brain or nervous system within her spine.
This doesn't mean she'd die at a young age. A person with these issues can live to a ripe old age as long as they continue to be monitored and given the care they need. Korra has that care with all the people who loves her, and I'm positive Asami would make sure Korra has the best care in the world (considering Asami's wealth). So Korra could easily live to an old age with Asami.
She would still be able to do Avatar duties as well, even if she ends up with some neurological issues down the line. She just needs to adjust her approach to compensate and allow others to aid her in her duties (like Asami helping her and the brothers and Air Nation, etc). It's okay to rely on others.
This is all to say that Korra is disabled now, and that's okay. Disabled people like myself exist and we deserve love and care too. We deserve to THRIVE. There is nothing bad or evil about disability.
I know that our society tries to shove 'disability=bad' down our throat, but that's to justify the horrific treatment society does to us.
Anyone can become disabled at any time. Maybe that might instill fear into some people, but I can assure you that it doesn't have to be scary. If we build systems of care instead of systems of harm, we wouldn't have to fear becoming disabled because that system of care -- like the one Korra has at the end of the show -- would help us thrive to the best of our ability.
We deserve those systems of care. We deserve love. We deserve good healthcare, housing, food, and other necessities for free/low-cost.
We don't have to live in systems of exploitation that throw away our lives because the capitalist overlords deemed us non-productive and worthless. We can take their shitty ideology and throw it in the wastebin.
And instead build up communities of care and mutual aid. We see how Korra's PTSD and her symptoms improve once she is back in the circle of her community of care with Asami, Mako, (eventually Bolin), Tenzin, Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, Pema, Kya, Bumi, and even the Beifong family and Lin. All of them provide care and support. Through that community of care, Korra learns how to thrive again.
That is what we need to build up. That's why I love her arc.
I too went through that dark period of pain and isolation. I too ran from my PTSD, literally as in ran to a different state to escape it, which like Korra discovers, doesn't quite work out well. We can't escape it. We have to face it and CHOOSE to heal.
It is ONLY when we CHOOSE to heal that we experience true growth. We don't learn and grow because of suffering in or itself. That's a lie told to us by society to get us to stay in suffering, to not choose to heal, to not choose to end the exploitation that hurts us.
No, we learn and grow because of the CHOICE to heal and build ourselves up in a healthier and more just and kinder and more loving way. Often, we make that choice because we have support to aid us in that healing, to give us what we need to follow-through.
Growth and learning cannot happen until we choose them.
Korra choose to heal when she's with Toph, and in doing so, she reconnects with her community of care, who in turn helps her recover and helps her learn to thrive again. So no matter what the long-term repercussions of mercury poisoning is for Korra, she will have her community of care to help her get through that and continue to thrive.
That is what I wish all disabled people could have.
