What caught my eye: among the 80 sequelae, 31% and 65% (for non-hospitalized and hospitalized) were still at statistically significantly higher risk ratios at 2 years compared to the control group (uninfected). That's pretty intense considering some of these still statistically significant sequelae are **death**, hospitalization, heart conditions/events, vomiting, etc., for the hospitalized group.

My favorite piece from Ambar is this one about digital access coordinators bridging health systems and patients' tech divide, where she got to shine with her strengths: making personal relationships & telling stories with empathy (and great photojournalism!)

Trials for Alzheimer's drugs missing out on a lot of human variation: nature.com/articles/d41586-023 (at the very least, companies are neglecting what might be a very large market segment) But when one segment of the population is at a higher risk, shouldn't research be focusing on that segment to generate the maximum benefit to society?

ICYMI: Isa Cueto's beautiful story from last week is about so much more than an obesity clinic for kids.

It's about changing the way adults and kids think and talk about weight and health, about the hard choices you make with $27 in your pocket, about being a parent, and about being a kid.

I also believed that the American government had allowed Martin’s death to happen. His shift in focus—from demanding to demanding and an end to the unjust slaughter overseas, had led to his assassination- Clarence B. Jones .

From birth to death, the legacy of racism lays the foundation for Black Americans' health disparities.

> [Black Americans compared to white Americans] have higher rates of infant and maternal mortality, higher incidence of asthma during childhood, more difficulty treating mental health as teens, and greater rates of high blood pressure, Alzheimer's disease and other illnesses.

Exposing vulnerable patients to unmasked, sick healthcare providers is NOT "patients first".

PREVENTABLE (with simple, cheap PPE) healthcare-acquired or anything else should be a NEVER event.

Maskless healthcare is malpractice.

Conclusions from "Infant feeding practices and parental perceptions during the 2022 United States infant formula shortage crisis":

"Our study found that feeding practices in response to the infant formula shortage may pose health risks to infants including nutrition and food insecurity. These data suggest the need for policy changes within regulatory and the healthcare system to provide families with clinical prenatal and postnatal lactation support, access to pasteurized banked donor milk, and access to more commercially available products."

nature.com/articles/d41586-023 On “health equity”: “It is not sufficient to measure only health or disease outcomes if we want to repair the institutional and societal systems, processes and policies that produce health inequity. The core of how we learn about injustice in the United States and worldwide is through the human experience. Personal and community stories are data, too.”

I am trying to find a tool to visualize authorship networks by region - i.e., where the researcher is based - along with author order, topic how often they are cited. Ideally I could also see gender and career stage, but I know those meta-data are harder to come by. Any suggestions?

The unaffordable cost of in-clinic abortion was a key reason why survey participants reported using online telemedicine for medication abortion; restrictive policies were also barriers to clinic access.
