I didn’t fuck up the time for my writing group, though, so… yay. I’m facilitating a year long course using inspired prompts on a different theme each month. It’s nice. This month we’re on ‘healing and responding to pain’ and we had a lovely conversation earlier in the month about resisting and in our experiences of healing. Sometimes what we need to heal is the harm of ableism, because our disabilities and illnesses persist. And that’s not ‘failure to heal’.

@Kencf618033 Neat! is the idea that our health is entirely our individual responsibility, and that it is a moral good to be healthy. It intersects and overlaps with and similarly obscures the social contexts within which health/illness occur, and also intersects with and diet culture. When it intersects with it can look like blaming people (or seeing them as morally inferior) for experiencing climate impacts, like for being more susceptible to heat or AQI.

In tonight’s anguish group chat, we talked about the hopelessness that many of us are feeling, the way we feel overwhelmed when we think about this issue. We talked about climate justice that resists and . We also talked about the actions available to us, and the value of knowing we’re not alone. And we planned our first in-person event, to meet at a local park (closest to our member with a baby, so they don’t have to travel far), to pick up trash together.

This is an important read. I would have many complex thoughts about how this shows in for example the pathologization of fatness and how my own lived experience fully relates with the ugly sides of the pandemic.

"Maybe the most performative form of everyday health supremacism during the pandemic has been the irrationally strong resistance to mask-wearing in many European countries."
