Health inequality is real in Australia.

One of my patients has been on the public waitlist for hip surgery for over 12 months. He is in constant pain, which limits his ability to exercise and work.

This week he asked his specialist how long he would wait if he paid for the procedure in the surgeon's private hospital.

"If you pay privately, we will get you in for surgery next week."

My patient can't afford the private fees.

I want to link with UK public health professionals specialising in sociology and health inequalities. Ideally, symbolic and structural stigma. Where can I find people? @BSPHNetwork@twitter.com @jimmcmanusph@twitter.com @GrahamScambler@twitter.com @ProfImogenTyler@twitter.com
