I have reverse slope hearing loss. Which means I can hear high tones loud and clear, and no low tones.

My hearing aids help.

Except.

Someone at our community who has zero hearing got a scooter last week that when backing up, starting, or stopping, beeps a high pitch, super high scream, the same as our building fire alarms.

Makes me nauseous.

Can’t get him to comprehend it makes me sick.

Anyway to get my hearing aids to block out such over high decibels?

When I first bought a pair of AirPods I jokingly referred to them as “millennial hearing aids” but never uncovered the settings to make them useful as such.

My very expensive - but very good - hearing aids are not as workshop-friendly as AirPods so I often forget to wear them. I did not know about the link between hearing loss and dementia. I’m going to put my ears in right now!

Oh look such sacrilege under $33 for a hearing aid! Yes it's not bespoke custom tricked out shiny and chrome like Adam would like with expert hand holding. However most elderly people only need the basics so they can hear the call to the dinner table. Call it just getting by. The fact that you're not burning through those tiny little batteries is worth it alone.

I have a question for #HearingAid wearers or people who know stuff about them.

I’ve worn hearing aids almost 33 years. I’ve only had these ones 5 months and I’ve had a heap of problems with them. The receivers in the earmould keep messing up.

We thought it was moisture causing issues, so got a special drier, but could they be getting blown out if the speakers aren’t powerful enough for the aids?

Seems very weird that I’ve now had the exact same issue in both ears!

I'm curious, for my fellow #hearingaid users, when you change the mode on your hearing aid(s) and the disembodied voice announces the name of the mode into your ear (s), do you briefly freak out each time and think everyone else can hear it?

Ok #HearingAid Mastodon, I just got an oticon hearing aid and have it paired with my Android phone. I can seemingly stream audio from every app except Microsoft Teams. Wtf? Google searches suggest Microsoft doesn't support it, but I also read a communities thread that suggested they used to? #Microsoft #hearingaids #teams

Fortunately I only need a hearing aid on one side, so I can use ear buds in the other ear, but this seems shitty for anyone with bilateral hearing aids.

Just learned that you could use the "live listen" function on an iPhone to double your headphones up as hearing aids.

Super useful if you cannot afford an evaluation/ hearing aids. Or if you live in an area where you may face stigma.

Got my first hearing aids this afternoon. Everything sounds very strange now, bordering on "tinny". I suppose I'll get used to it eventually.

Meanwhile, my Nokia 1 phone isn't up to running the hearing aids' control app. Any recommendations for an Android phone with small screen and no bloatware?
