There are a few instances of loud ringing sounds in this episode. My Loops Experience Plus earplugs did not really make the sound any better. I should make note that I was not wearing the mute accessory.

Popular misconception: all deaf people use #SignLanguage.

Here in the UK it's actually around 1% of the #Deaf, #Deafened and #HardOfHearing folks.

I'm not discrediting sign language, it's important, just that not all deaf people use it.

I think it's 40% of the over-50's and 70% of the over 70's with age related #HearingLoss too.

I'm curious if there are any hashtags that can be followed to help warn people with auditory sensitivities about painful high pitched noises that happen in movies, tv shows, video games, music, or any other form of media that incorporates audio into it's format.

Stuff like this warns about flashing lights and stuff for people that may suffer from epilepsy, but it doesn't warn for painful noises for people who would be sensitive to this, and knowing in advance whether or not something is going to feel like having nails driven into your ear lobes would be pretty handy.

If not, I think we should start a hashtag so that people can keep up with and update others when they encounter something that has painful sounds.

For example, the latest episode of #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds was painful enough to make me scream in pain last night. So you might want to be on the lookout for Season 2 Episode 4: The Lotus Eaters.

Now that I'm wearing short sleeves, my watch tells me that my bicycle commute is too loud due to wind noise. I do notice that the wind noise is pretty loud. Does anyone know whether bicycling is a risk for hearing loss? Should I think about wearing earmuffs? I think they will reduce the wind noise without blocking real noise.

2/20 There are a number of possible reasons for my #HearingLoss. There's too many years of operating snowblowers and lawn mowers without hearing #protection. There's scarring from too many #ear infections due to something unrelated. And there's been way too many antibiotics to treat those ear infections, and they can cause hearing loss too.

The #truth is probably a mixture of all of those.

1/20 There's something I haven't seen discussed online a lot. But it affects a lot of people, in negative ways that are not immediately obvious to the people around them.

I'm describing this to ask you to think about it a little, and, I hope, perhaps treat the affected with a little more #empathy once you understand.
