I find it fascinating that, when I’ve dared to post critiques of the motives of the #US #Imperium, #NATO & the arms manufacturers’ “permanent war complex” in respect of the #Ukraine invasion by #Russia (which I fundamentally do NOT support btw), I get responses very similar to yours.

They all seem to parrot western/ NATO propaganda lines that (crudely): deny the US/ NATO have in *any* way provoked those invasions & put *all* the blame on #Putin for his decision to invade (both in 2014 & 2022)!

I’ve been called all sorts of names (not by you obviously) for my troubles - both on Masto & previously on Musk’s platform.

Seems to me we’re stuck back in the old Cold War mentality of: US/ NATO/ “free world” always good, never wrong vs Russia always bad, always wrong!

I’m not by any means an expert in geopolitics nor am I a historian but I know & trust the work of someone who has a deep understanding of both when it comes to US imperial behaviour - Chris #Hedges.

Imo the only acceptable answer to your question is the creation of a single, national & *truly* democratic entity (#Israel claims to be democratic but in reality discriminates both against Israeli Arabs & the indigenous Palestinian majority) where *all* citizens, irrespective of their faith/ ethnic group etc enjoy the same rights, privileges & freedoms as each other!

The #Israel-#Palestine status quo described so chillingly by Chris #Hedges in this article ⤵️ cannot, surely, be tolerated in this day and age?

Why did the #US #Imperium go after Julian #Assange? What did he do?

As Chris #Hedges writes on #Substack in a sermon he gave on August 20 in Oslo entitied “The Crucifixion of Julian Assange”: they came after him because he told the truth - again and again!

[Full disclosure: I’m an atheist but I am also a great admirer of Hedges’ writings & his passionate opposition to the criminal, warmongering ruling classes!]

“They came after Julian because he exposed the more than 15,000 unreported deaths of #Iraqi civilians;

because he exposed the torture and abuse of some 800 men and boys, aged between 14 and 89, at #Guantánamo;

because he exposed that Hillary #Clinton in 2009 ordered U.S. diplomats to spy on U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and other U.N. representatives from China, France, Russia, and the U.K., spying that included obtaining DNA, iris scans, fingerprints, and personal passwords (part of the long pattern of illegal surveillance that included the eavesdropping on U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan in the weeks before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003);

because he exposed that Barack #Obama, Hillary Clinton and the #CIA backed the June 2009 military coup in #Honduras that overthrew the democratically elected president Manuel Zelaya, replacing him with a murderous and corrupt military regime;

because he exposed that George W. #Bush, Barack Obama and General David #Petraeus prosecuted a war in Iraq that under post-Nuremberg laws is defined as a criminal war of aggression, a war crime;

that they authorized hundreds of targeted assassinations, including those of U.S. citizens in #Yemen, and that they secretly launched missile, bomb, and drone attacks on Yemen, killing scores of civilians;

because Julian exposed the contents of the speeches Hillary Clinton gave to Goldman Sachs for which she was paid $675,000, a sum so large it can only be considered a bribe, and that she privately assured corporate leaders she would do their bidding while promising the public financial regulation and reform;

because he exposed how the hacking tools used by the CIA and the National Security Agency [#NSA] permit the wholesale government surveillance of our televisions, computers, smart phones and anti-virus software, allowing the government to record and store our conversations, images and private text messages, even from encrypted apps.

Julian exposed the truth. He exposed it over and over and over until there was no question of the endemic illegality, corruption and mendacity that defines the global ruling class And for these truths they came after Julian, as they have come after all who dared rip back the veil on power.”

I have seen @teagasc constantly advocating that #hedges should be cut in an A shape for #biodiversity & #sequestration. I travel many roads around Ir. & I’ve yet to see a hedge cut like that - they’re all cut square. @Teagasc need to have a chat with local authorities !

The towering pittosporum hedges swayed in the breeze. Their evergreen foliage and delicate purple flowers, like bright tiny flecks of paint are smattered throughout their branches. In the spring time, birds sheltered in the dense foliage. It hummed with new life. Howling winds and rains were buffered in the winter, branches bending and bowing at the will of the wind.

Hedges separate, they divide boundaries and create a barrier. The house behind the hedge harboured other secrets. It remained hidden, the curtains always closed and a single, lonely light emanating through the bedroom window. Occasionally, a figure stood in silhouette through the window, casting eyes over the garden. Smoke often bellowed from the chimney, but not a sound was ever heard. It was as if the hedge was keeping the world out, protecting the home and its occupant from prying eyes.

The gates at the front were rusted shut, a heavy galvanised chain wrapped tightly around the wrought iron gates. Mail cascaded from the letterbox, the post rotten and on a precarious angle. Weeds were waist high along the drive and the once grand gardens were overgrown and unkempt. The garden had reclaimed a car, vines crept through the windows and wildlife used it as a shelter. But nobody dared venture down the drive.

Nobody ever went in, and nobody ever came out.
