I can't understand why the new #fujifilm XApp application can't transfer #HEIF or raw image files to Android phone. It can only transfer JPEGs.

Ach, so'n Ärger - irgendwie hat sich leider wieder #heic bzw #heif und #hevc als Format reaktiviert. Hatte ich deaktiviert, weil zumindest Google Photos damit Probleme hat 🤬

Okay, I'm coming out of my libheif rabbithole with a new #NodeJS package: libheif-node-dy

It's a native module for #HEIF / #HEIC image decoding. Compared to the popular heic-decode, it's 3 to 5 times faster. It's dynamically linked against libheif for good measure, to completely make sure LGPL dynamic linking rule is satisfied.

This does mean you have to separately install libheif, but libheif is widely available in all distros so it shouldn't be hard to get.

@job Yes, patents are the main reason #HEIC sucks. An adjacent suckage is that despite the #HEIF container being really flexible and having support for image sequences and almost arbitrary content, #Apple still chose to save the movie portion of #LivePhotos to a separate file. Cue much breakage in applications that make the reasonable assumption that a photo will be stored in one file.

Huh, die #AVIF-Datei wurde nach dem Upload anscheinend in eine (fast drei mal so große) #HEIF/#HEIC-Datei umgewandelt, und diese HEIC-Datei wird jetzt im Web-Client (getestet in Firefox/Linux-Desktop/Android 11 & Chrome/Android 11) nicht angezeigt. Dafür aber in Tusky. 😅 @Gargron ist das so gewollt?

Yes, after a month of work, I finally managed to merge the #avif / #heif branch!

It has full color profile support and everything! This was an insane amount of work, especially research and I felt I was going mad at some points.

Krita's appimages and other binaries will be building libheif with #rav1e and #dav1d, which means that mere mortals will be able to save avif without needing a fancy computer at cost of a little quality.
