This is the little parish church in #Heinenoord in the #HoekscheWaard where he must have been baptised. It was one of my first destinations after I got my car, to have a look at the family grave and perhaps see the records. But they are now only open on demand.

131 Years ago today my opa was born. He had a hard childhood in a very large family where the children were put up with uncles & aunts in the country. He was not very tall with portly tendencies, like me, and was an amateur photographer, like me. But unlike me, he was one of the first in town to own a car. He worked his way up in the family grocer's business and was able to pay for two of his four sons' university ed. Here he is ca. 1920.

@philip_willems Vreemd, vanavond remde ik af voor een wandelaar die op een smalle, donkere weg liep, hij had een lichtgevend jack aan. Leek mij normaal want er kwam ook nog een tegenligger aan. Achter mij reed iemand die mij met hoge snelheid inhaalde en daarbij bijna een wegversmallingspaal uit de grond reed. Ik zal het wel fout gedaan hebben denk ik dan. #wegpiraat #heinenoord
