@sevignes
I could post photos of some. We could start a hashtag for it. Maybe #Heirlooms or something. That could be fun. I wonder if there's one already, for #Buttons. I will follow you so I don't forget to tell you if I do it. (I have a couple hundred other things on my to do list.)

Utterly wild that, with all the things we’ve lost and left behind over the years, somehow my family has my dad’s and uncle’s Christmas stockings from the 1940s/1950s. It was not a very happy childhood, despite the bells and bright red colors here! #christmas #heirlooms #familyhistory

Nine years ago I wrote about the decorations on my Christmas tree - they are once again in situ https://thehistoryinterpreter.wordpress.com/2013/12/28/a-family-history-on-a-christmas-tree/ #FamilyHistory #Heirlooms #Genealogy @geneadons

This Proto screwdriver has been on my keychain most of my adult life. My father gave it to me, and it may have come from his father. I rarely use it as a screwdriver any more, but it's endlessly useful as a pry tool and for splitting open the tape on shipping boxes. I use it multiple times a week.

@janetfew @geneadons that’s another project on my to-do list then. We’re trying to move into “use it” mode. So far cutlery and tablecloths only, the latter never used in my lifetime, three gone to cousins abroad. The only story that of a hard-working grandmother waiting for fiancé to return from NZ. #FamilyHistory #Heirlooms

An early Christmas gift! I've wanted a jewelry tree since I was a kid. My stepfather inherited one from his grandmother and it was always one of my favorite Christmas decorations. My crafty mom made me this. The jewelry and the frame are all thrifted except for some pieces that belonged to Mom, my maternal grandmother, my paternal grandmother, and my step-grandmother. I will love and treasure this forever. #christmas #jewelryart #upcycling #heirlooms

Unfortunately, I can't use the NYT "gift link" feature with this article, but you may still be able to access it.
Like Meg, I still have (and use regularly!) the aluminum colander that belonged to my mother. It's the only colander I ever knew growing up. I think she received it as a bridal shower gift in 1955.
What are some of your treasured heirlooms?

Trying not to tear up as I unpack my mom's dishes, last seen in her kitchen in 2019. She died of a stroke in April 2020—Covid and 3,000 miles kept me from saying goodbye in person. Thanksgiving dinner will be extra special because of these. Iroquois China they were made in my hometown. #memories #heirlooms #familyhistory
