Najpierw walczyłem z nowym segfaultem w #pydantic 2 z Pythonem 3.12. Nie udało mi się zajść daleko, co najwyżej ustalić, że to #heisenbug.

Potem testowałem świeży snapshot #LLVM — tylko po to, by odkryć, że testy znów padly na 32-bitowych platformach. Po bisect'cie, okazało się, że przyczyną była zmiana "NFCi" (niezamierzająca zmian funkcjonalnych) do logiki hashowania — wygląda na to, że LLVM drukuje teraz funkcje w kolejności zależnej od platformy.

Na koniec walczyłem z segfaultem w testach #trimesh. Najwyraźniej jest to regresja związana z betą #numpy 1.26.0, więc wypracowałem backtrace i zgłosiłem błąd.

This circuit isn't working. But the second I turn on an oscilloscope, it starts working. I turn the oscilloscope back off, the circuit misbehaves.

I haven't even connected the oscilloscope.

I have the bad build of the firmware that soft-bricks any device you flash it to. No symbols of course. Now that I finally have a device with the debug port exposed, all hyped up to find the bug, I also have a new build of the same branch that works fine. Just... great. Classic #embedded #heisenbug

Wonderful #heisenbug where I'm getting 403 forbidden from a lambda under test UNLESS I run our "quick tests" where it runs failed first and stops on first failure. In which case it passes on the failed test then fails on a different one 😑

Monday: Trying the new thermostat, it crashes every couple of hours. (n=2)
Added debug code.
Tuesday: Works fine. Has been running for 27 hours now. Only difference is the debug code.

It's taken me nearly 2 weeks to track down a #heisenbug in #cPanel (reoccurs around every 48 hours under certain conditions) - but at least now I've provided cPanel Inc with details of this minor annoyance/false reporting.

That's weird. Are #Mastodon #Notifications glitchy for anyone else? Just been pinged with a reply from someone on infosec.exchange. It appeared once in my notifications list, but has since vanished?

When was the last time you've experienced a #heisenbug ? What was the cause?

In my practice it's usually incorrect await/async handling which manisfests differently in dev/staging/production

@Hotweatherisbad @meuon this is where I finally break and write unit tests...

It was to avoid these "what the..." moments that I started always using linting and type hinting on my Python code, and (quite commonly) writing tests (not that I do TDD, shudder).

Spent 2 hours this evening trying to #debug an LDAP integration test which uses ApacheDS with starttls. It was passing with the debugger and failing without. In the end I just has to go to the latest version 🤷🏻‍♂️ #heisenbug #apacheds
