The picture is complicated. Parents slave their lives for their kids. Then they grow up and don't find #jobs to be independent.

Some kids are just spoiled being pampered by parents. They neither care for their parents nor feel obligated to relive their parents from supporting them instead of them supporting old parents.

In reading "The Coddling of the American Mind," I had a thought:

Has the proliferation of helicopter parents lead to a government (populace parents) that are less protective of their children (the populace)?

Is it possible that some of the issues of today are due to the presence of a zero-sum responsibility game, like the government has assigned responsibility for everyone to parents? At the same time, the gov is in all of our affairs, so perhaps they have become bad #helicopterparents?
